I don’t know where the time has gone but it’s Friday and officially Halloween weekend! I’m in the middle of planning + kicking off my biggest collab project for this business yet: a holiday guide! More on that in the newsletter. My goal for it is to have an interactive page where you can find unique businesses and makers, cool restaurants to have your holiday dinners at, and fun things to gift… all local to CNY.

In this Middle of Somewhere, you'll find:

  • Want your shop in the Holiday Guide?

  • Good news in Auburn

  • On the calendar (Halloween weekend and beyond)

  • A small request

Thanks for sharing the love of CNY with me!

ATTN Business Owners: Want your shop in the Holiday Guide?

I’m building the MoS Central NY Holiday Guide, a roundup of local businesses I’d send my friends to this season. If you own a shop, own a bar/restaurant, make things or run a spot people should know about, I’d love to include you.

Deadline to join is November 13.

In the guide (so far) we have trail cameras, a psychic, and textile art!

Good news in Auburn

Plant a tree tomorrow morning. The city's annual Fall Tree Planting Day is Saturday at 8 a.m. at Lincoln Playground (149 N. Fulton St.). All ages are welcome. Bring your own gloves, shovel, and rake. The Trust for Public Land and the state DEC paid for the trees, so all you're on the hook for is the digging. Plant a tree in the morning, collect candy at night. Details here.

Casey Park has a traffic garden. It's a kid-sized network of little roads, street signs, and paths where kids can practice riding a bike before they're on a real street, and it's built for children of all abilities. A state grant through the Cayuga County Health Department paid for it and it opened this week. Read more.
